Laura McGee lost her bid for the Montana State House in the general election.

Laura McGee, an enrolled member of the Blackfeet Nation, is running for Montana State House District 18.  She was born in Great Falls, Montana, and raised and educated in Browning.  INDN’s List candidate Denise Juneau, who is running for Superintendent of Public Instruction, taught during McGee’s senior year of high school, as a student teacher.

McGee lived in the country with her family, and her grandparents encouraged the traditional lifestyle and were instrumental in starting the Native American Indian Days.  She is married to Dan, a math teacher & chiropractor, and they have three children, Tiara, Danny & Aliyah.

A small business owner for over 10 years, she started as a Mary Kay consultant and was one of the first Native Americans living on a reservation to earn the use of 2 free cars.  She recruited and trained many native women who now run their own businesses, many of whom subsidize their teacher and nurse salaries with money from Mary Kay.   She opened her own gift basket business in Browning and was awarded a $10,000 grant in 2002 from the Four Winds Foundation.  In 2005, Allstate Insurance offered her the opportunity to open her own agency in Great Falls.  She is fully licensed in property, casualty, and life insurance, and was the #1 producer in Montana for financial services.

McGee has been passionate about public service since her youth, and has spent her career trying to help others succeed.

State of the Race:
Laura McGee is the Democratic Nominee for HD 18 in Montana.  She was appointed to the candidacy after the Democratic winner in the district had to drop out of the race after taking a job that could be a conflict of interest if elected.  In November, McGee faces Republican incumbent Jesse O’Hara in an uphill battle because it is a conservative district.  We know she can win, but she needs our help!  We are proud to endorse McGee for State Senate!
