Congratulations, Sharon! Senator-Elect Sharon Peregoy won her election with 63.14% of the vote.
Sharon Peregoy, an enrolled member of the Apsaalooke Nation (Crow Tribe), is the Democratic nominee for Montana State Senate District 21. She is a member of the Piegan/Ties, the Bundle Clan, and a child of the Big Lodge Clan.
She was born in the old hospital in Crow Agency, Montana, in 1953. She was raised on the Crow Indian Reservation, and she speaks, reads and writes in her native Crow language. She believes in the power of language in maintaining tribal culture and identity and wants all native children to be literate in their native languages. Peregoy is the proud mother of her daughter, Catherine “Buffy” Stewart.
Currently, she serves as the Research and Development Coordinator for the Crow Tribe Office of Economic Development. Peregoy has extensive experience ranging from teaching in the classroom to directing her tribe’s health department. Five years ago, she founded a Crow youth leadership group known as Aak Bacheeitchilewioosh to mentor children. This program has impacted over 150 students and currently has 66 active students.
Peregoy graduated from Montana State University with her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, and received her Masters in Education from Seattle City University in Bellevue, Washington.
State of the Race:
Sharon Peregoy won her primary and faces a general election for SD 21 in November. The seat encompasses both the Crow and Northern Cheyenne reservations, and we know she will truly represent their issues in the Montana State Senate. She will fight for quality education, adequate health care, and for more jobs, but she needs our help to win! We are proud to endorse her candidacy this year!
