Congratulations, Jerry!  Representative Jerry McPeak won his reelection bid for the Oklahoma State House with 70.36% of the vote.

Representative Jerry McPeak, a member of the Muscogee Creek Nation, has served in the Oklahoma State Legislature for two terms, representing District 13, and is the Assistant Democratic Floor Leader.  Representative McPeak also serves as Co-Chair of the Native American Caucus.

Representative McPeak, an agriculture instructor at Connors State College in Warner, is a vocal and aggressive advocate for public education.  He is a spokesperson for the One In A Million campaign, which is devoted to creating a National Teachers Hall of Fame, to honor our teachers.  During the last session, McPeak authored a bill to provide prescription assistance to Oklahoma’s senior citizens and continued his efforts to support public education and rural Oklahomans.

He was on the front lines in the House as an outspoken opponent of English-only legislation, which threatens Oklahoma’s Indian Nations language preservation efforts.

State of the Race:
We are happy to endorse the incumbent Democrat from Warner in his 2008 campaign! Representative McPeak faces no primary, but has a Republican opponent for the general election in November.  He needs support from INDN’s List members to keep up the good fight against threats to our tribal sovereignty and to continue to be a champion for those who need a voice in the State House.
