Senator Nancy Riley was unsuccessful in her reelection bid to the Oklahoma State Senate.

Senator Nancy Riley has served in the Oklahoma State Senate for two terms, representing District 37.  She is a member of the Cherokee Nation.

Before she ran for office in 2000, Senator Riley was a public school teacher for 13 years.  After she graduated from Tulsa Edison High School, she attended Oklahoma Christian University studying Elementary Education.  After she married her high-school sweetheart, she decided to be a stay-at-home mother.  Her husband was diagnosed with brain tumor after the birth of their second child, and died soon after, leaving her a widow.  She went back to school to get her degree, and then began working for Tulsa Public Schools.  She also married Jerry Riley.

Senator Riley ran for office to put people first.  She became more involved with young parents, who, like herself, were struggling to support their children.  She was convinced she could do more statewide for children than she could do in one classroom, and she dedicated her life to public service.

State of the Race:
In 2006, Senator Riley switched parties to become a member of the Democratic Party.  She switched because the Republican leadership was more concerned with winning elections and making Democrats look bad than making good policy for the citizens of Oklahoma.  After the switch, Republicans have made this seat a target.  We are sure Senator Riley will be victorious in November, but she has a challenge and she needs your support!  Winning this seat is one of the keys for the Senate Democrats to regain an outright majority in November.
