Scott BigHorse was unsuccessful in his 2008 reelection bid. 

Representative Scott BigHorse was born in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, and is a member of the Osage Nation.  He was first elected to the Oklahoma State House of Representatives in 2006.

Representative BigHorse attended the Haskell Indian College, where he majored in social work.  Afterwards, he worked in the ranching and oil industries, and had a lengthy career in corrections.  He holds a Peace Officer certification from the State of Oklahoma through the Council on Law Endorsement Education and Training (CLEET).  He is a member of the City of Pawhuska Planning and Zoning Board.

Representative BigHorse is proud to sit on the Pawhuska District Singing Committee and Hominy District Singing Committee, and he participates in the ceremonies of the Osage Nation.  He has two children, Melanie and Norris.

During his first term, BigHorse focused his efforts on fiscal responsibility with a mission to force the Oklahoma state government to live within its means.  Representative BigHorse worked with his fellow lawmakers to curb tax cuts, to ensure that education, health care and highways were adequately funded.   He was also named the Outstanding Agriculture and Ranching Advocate of the Year out of the freshman class in the legislature.

Representative BigHorse opposed English-only legislation that would have a negative impact on tribal language preservation and Oklahoma’s economy.

State of the Race:

We are proud to once again endorse Representative Scott BigHorse!  He does not have a July primary, but he will face a challenge in the November general election.  There are 3 Republican opponents vying to run against Scott.   We must fight to keep progressive public servants like Scott in our legislature, and he cannot do it with your support!
