Best-Selling Author will Push for an "Indian Miracle" at Campaign Camp

July 12, 2007 -- Laura Flanders, host of RadioNATION on Air America Radio and a New York Times best-selling author, will speak to Indian leaders and INDN candidates and staff attending Campaign Camp 2007.

Flanders is the author of Blue Grit: True Democrats Take Back Politics from the Politicians and BUSHWOMEN: Tales of a Cynical Species, as well as a guest writer for such publications as The Nation, Alternet, Ms. Magazine, and the San Francisco Chronicle.

"Laura Flanders understands what INDN's List is all about: building political power in the Democratic Party and throughout Indian Country from the bottom up," said Kalyn Free. "She is on the cutting edge of where our politics and our Party are going, and her talk at Campaign Camp will bring our candidates and staff trainees along with her."

Donate now to INDN's List to provide scholarships for candidates and staff to attend Campaign Camp - - this will strengthen our Party, our politics, and Indian Country.

Blue Grit, Flanders's most recent book, is an examination of politics in America from the bottom up. In it, she argues that Democratic Party leaders have ignored important Progressive constituencies in their "race to the center." "It's time for a party of the streets - and the reservations - not just a party of the suites" says Flanders. The so-called "Montana Miracle" result of 2006 wasn't so much a "miracle" as it was the result of a lot of hard work by, among others, the Indian Vote. We know that American Indians can make a difference - and help Democrats. But they have to be organized to be heard. INDN's List is electing Indians coast-to-coast who are committed to building better communities for their constituents and a brighter future for Indian Country.

"The aspiring candidates and grassroots activists that attend Campaign Camp are a perfect example of the kinds of groups too-long ignored by our political leaders," said Flanders. "They are the future for Indian Country, for the Progressive movement, and for the Democratic Party, and I couldn't be more excited to address them and tribal leaders from across America.  I firmly believe that Indian Tribes will play a critical role in determining control of the U.S. Senate and House and who is in the White House.  Through the work of the INDN's List Education Fund, America may very well experience an "Indian Miracle!"

Be the future of our Party and of Indian Country by contributing now.
