News Release (November 30, 2007)
Burrage Chosen by Senate Leadership as Member of Joint Committee on State-Tribal Relations
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Freshman State Senator Sean Burrage, a Democrat from Claremore, has been selected by President Pro Tempore Mike Morgan to be a member of the Joint Committee on State-Tribal Relations. Burrage, himself a citizen of the Choctaw Nation, said he is honored to have been chosen by senate leadership for such an important committee that oversees and approves agreements between tribal governments and the State of Oklahoma.
"Native American culture is not only a part of who I am, but who we are as a state," Burrage said. "I look forward to serving on this committee and hope to continue the progress of creating strong alliances between tribal governments and the state. By working together on issues that are important to all of us, we will make our state a better place to live, work and raise a family."
Morgan said he chose Senator Burrage as a member of the committee because of his knowledge of tribal governments and his commitment to seeing tribal governments remain a strong part of Oklahoma's economy and
heritage.
"Senator Burrage has a great passion for helping forge relationships with the leaders of the state and of the tribal governments which exist in Oklahoma," Morgan said. "He is a capable leader, and I have complete confidence in his ability to understand the important role tribal governments play in helping move our state forward."
